February – ah, the month of love. You want chocolates, roses, a romantic date night. You want to love someone with all of your heart.
But in this lovely month of Valentine’s treats and sweets, we often forget about the most important thing: our love machine (the heart).
As a company that specializes in medical deliveries Dallas, we believe in staying up on health news. That’s why in February we don’t just celebrate Valentine’s Day, we celebrate being heart healthy couriers!
Thanks to the American Heart Association, the word is getting out. Your heart matters – not just for love – for your LIFE.
In order to kick-off February in the right way, I figured I would give some important facts from our medical couriers Dallas. Join our team in getting heart-healthy, heart-smart and heart-happy.
- Heart disease is the number one killer of women – that’s why the AHA has the Go Red for Women- Wearing RED campaign in February (Feb. 3).
- Heart attacks can be signaled by pain the chest that lasts more than a few minutes.
- The AHA has 7 simple steps to living a heart-healthier lifestyle:
- Get Active. 70% of Americans do not get enough exercise. DON”T BE ONE OF THEM! Luckily, our medical deliveries DFW team has a job that begins and ends with exercise!
- Control Cholesterol. Controlling cholesterol will keep your arteries free from blockages. Sounds like a good plan.
- Eat Better. Whole grain, lean protein, colorful fruits and veggies = good. Saturated fats, trans fat, cholesterol, sodium = bad.
- Manage Blood Pressure. High blood pressure is the single biggest risk factor for heart disease.
- Lose Weight. 2/3 of adults in America are overweight. Let’s change the cycle.
- Reduce Blood Sugar. Keep your body at a low risk for developing pre-diabetes and diabetes.
- Stop Smoking. Stop smoking for your heart and for your lungs.
- Heart disease – also called cardiovascular disease – is a simple term used to describe several problems related to plaque buildup in the walls of the arteries, or atherosclerosis. As the plaque builds up, the arteries narrow, making it more difficult for blood to flow and creating a risk for heart attack or stroke.
